On Tuesday night the 24th-ranked Waxahachie Indian volleyball team beat South Grand Prairie 3-0 in a match that took the Indians to 32-30 to fend off the Warriors in the second set for the win.

The Indians easily beat the Warriors in the first set, 25-9, but the second set saw the Indians get behind early 3-7, then take the lead at 16-13 then give it back and get down 20-23 before circling the wagons and fighting tooth and nail to finish 32-30 in the highest-scoring set of the year. In the third set the Warriors just couldn’t muster any fight and lost 25-13 for a 3-set sweep for the Indians.

Senior Lacy Mott, who is ranked second in the DFW area in kills, had 14 kills, followed by Madison Babers (9 kills), sophomore Jh’kyah Head (5 kills) and junior Emma Smithey (5 kills).


Senior setter Ragan Ward had 32 assists and 15 digs. Smithey led the blocks with 4 and Head had 2.

Tuesday night’s contest puts Waxahachie at 32-11 and 7-1 in district play and are still in a 3-way tie for first in District 7-6A. In Friday’s match-up, the Indians were to travel to Mansfield Lake Ridge (35-5, 7-1) at 5:30 p.m. to battle for the district frontrunner position.
